Beer

Among "hopheads"(beer lovers), Portland's nicknames include "Beervana," "Brewtopia" and "Munich on the Willamette." Portland has more breweries than any other city in the world. There are 30 craft breweries within the city limits; 38 in the Portland metro area. Oregonians consumed 2.72 million barrels of beer in 2008, of that more than 327,000 barrels were made in Oregon or about 12 percent of the total beer consumed in Oregon – the highest percentage of local craft beer consumption in the country.

Among the 50 largest breweries in the nation, five are craft breweries located in Oregon. Widmer Brothers Brewing Co ranked #17, Deschutes Brewery ranked #21, Full Sail Brewing Co ranked #26, Bridgeport Brewing Co ranked #41 and Rogue Ales ranked #42. Portland is home to the nation’s best-attended beer bash: the Oregon Brewers Festival. More than 50,000 people enjoy this annual riverfront event, which takes place the last full weekend of July.

Beer Sampler

The Breweries in Portland that are on the must visited list, where most of them offer the fun and famous beer sampler which lets you taste all the micro brews that they offer: Deschutes Brewery, Bridgeport Brewery, Widmer Brewery and Hopworks Urban Brewery. Two other stops in Portland to sample taps of beer from all over the world: The Horse Brass Pub and Henry’s 12th Street Tavern both offer around 100 different brews to enjoy.
